Sport Scientist, Strength and Conditioning Coach and Mind Coach

Paul Simmons has worked in the sport, health and leisure industry since 1994. Paul has been a trainer, tutor, lecturer, therapist and scientist and worked in many different fields.

Paul aimed to back hands-on understanding of training and competing excellence with scientific support to maximize results through structured and methodical programmes. Paul obtained a Bachelor degree in Sport Science at the highly regarded University of Brighton in 1999 and presenting at the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science Student Conference in the area of Sport Psychology in the sport of Triathlon the same year. He then went on to postgraduate study at Essex University to complete an MSc in Sport Science specialising in Sport Physiology and Sports Medicine. His presented his research at the 2003 BASES Student conference at Coventry University and the International Conference for Sport, Leisure and Ergonomics at John Moores Liverpool University in 2003 in the area of Exercise Physiology and the abstract was published in the Journal of Sport Sciences.

Paul qualified with the American National Association of Strength and Conditioning as a highly regarded Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and was one of the first 60 to achieve this in 2000 to become a Strength and Conditioning Coach. He is also qualified with the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health and Fitness Specialist since 2000. As well as holding qualifications since 1994 in Personal Training, Fitness Training, Testing, Nutrition, GP Referral, Rehabilitation with YMCA, Premier International, Trainer 2000, Former Exercise Association, Association of Personal Trainers and Fitness Professionals.

Paul started with his first fitness role in 1995 as gym instructor and the gym manager at a independent gym in Worthing and then freelance classes and one to one training. In 1996, Paul started FRONTIER. The consultancy incorporated both general fitness training and sport specific support for athletes. The consultancy is thriving and still supports general fitness novices that want to tone-up and lose weight effectively aswell as athletes. Paul has worked in a variety of sports including Amateur/Professional Boxing, Motor Cross, Field Athletics, Professional Kickboxing, Sport Karate, Professional and Academy Tennis, Triathlon, Professional Golf, Rugby, Football and Swimming. The consultancy works at different levels to provide improves sporting performance through areas of physiology, psychology and applied physical training.

From 1999 to 2004 Paul lectured part-time for FE Sussex Downs College as a lecturer in Sport Science and Medicine and as a freelance Senior Tutor for Sports Coach UK in the same topic areas. Paul has been a guest lecturer over the last six years at Middlesex University and Buckingham University aswell as a freelance lecturer/tutor for Army School of Physical Training (Aldershot) for Physical Training Instructors, Premier International Training Company, London School of Sport Massage, Amateur Rowing Association and Alexander Palace National Ice Skating Coaching in the areas of Nutrition, Injury Management and Prevention, Conditioning and Sports Testing.

Paul met up with Nino Severino in 2002 who was at the times creating Footsport Dynamics a World Class Training System for improving Intelligent Footwork, Functional Balance, Agility, Neuro-muscular training, Speed and Specific Quickness. He co-developed the system with Nino Severino and heads the Sport Science Department which develops the system and creates learning packages and workshops for the development of the system in areas of injury prevention, management, rehabilitation, footwork development and correction, and physical conditioning. At current they have worked with Manchester United Football Team,

 

 

England Amateur Boxing Team, England Karate Team and Norwich City Football Team aswell other individuals and Teams with Footsport Dynamics Training System.

 

 

 

From 2004 to the present day Paul works intensively and specifically in Tennis and presented at the Scottish National Tennis Coaching Conference in Edingburgh and the British Tennis Coaches Association National Coaching Conference, Bisham Abbey.

Paul, Nino and Paul Darby co-founded Footsport Golf and became the first dynamic golf training system in Europe. The system was taught by the three to the Sport Science Department of the PGA at The Belfry and put onto there three year Professional Golf Programme.

In 2008 Paul furthered his base and started to work with athletes on mind improvement and has worked with some of the countries top Junior Tennis players including Abbi Melrose, Julian Cash and Joe Mills.

Alongside this he also a co-founder of AMS a training service for elite athletes that need professional support for their training.
